Announcement: Upcoming forensic accounting conference with focus on technology

Forensic Accounting and Emerging Technologies Conference

August 10 and 11, 2017

Boca Raton, Florida

FAU’s Center for Forensic Accounting and U.S. Department of the Treasury will host another forensic accounting conference on August 10 and 11, 2017 at FAU in Boca Raton, Florida. The theme for this conference will be technology with a focus on emerging technology such as fraud and crimes related to Bitcoin, cybersecurity, and handling and preserving technology evidence. The registration fee is $150 (late registration after August 1 is $200). Space is limited.

Event Description

Location: Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Office of Inspector General and Florida Atlantic University’s Center for Forensic Accounting, this conference will focus on technology frauds and crimes and the importance of the forensic financial and law enforcement communities working together to combat fraud and criminal activities.

Speakers will include members from components of the federal government such as U.S. Secret Service and private sector experts.

Attendees receive attendance credit to claim continuing education/training for attending the complete conference. Florida Atlantic University will issue a certificate of attendance. CPAs: See NASBA guidelines for claiming CPE hours for university non-credit courses.

No refunds will be given after August 1, 2017, substitutions are allowed.   Each attendee must complete an online registration form and pay online. Registration is not complete until the form and registration fee are received.

Parking: Each vehicle will need a parking permit to park at FAU. Visitor parking permits are $2 per day and can be purchased online at http://www.fau.edu/parking/permits.php Buy your permit for the first day of the conference. For the second day, we will give attendees a physical permit for the second day of parking when they check in at the conference. (Any vehicle without a parking permit may receive a citation from FAU police.)

Dr. Michael Crain
I have been associated with FAU since 2008, initially as an adjunct and then full-time faculty starting in 2016. I am both an academic and for over 30 years a practitioner. I have a Doctor of Business Administration (finance) degree from Manchester Business School, University of Manchester (England) and an MBA and BA Accounting degrees from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. I am a licensed Certified Public Accountant (Florida) and practitioner in business valuation and forensic accounting in my consulting. I am a senior advisor to Miami-based accounting firm Kaufman Rossin in the forensic accounting and valuation areas. I am a co-author or contributing author of six texts on business valuation or forensic accounting. I have written extensively in practitioner journals such as the Journal of Accountancy and taught CPAs on valuation and forensic accounting at national and state conferences and seminars. I am a past chair of the American Institute of CPAs’ (AICPA) business valuation committee serving for three years. I have certifications in valuation and investment analysis: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA Institute) and Accredited in Business Valuation (AICPA). I am also a Certified Fraud Examiner (Association of Certified Fraud Examiners). I have received several awards including the AICPA Lawler Award presented by the AIPCA’s Journal of Accountancy for best article of the year and AICPA’s Sustained Contribution Award, and have been inducted into the AICPA’s Business Valuation Hall of Fame.
