Congratulations to Dr. Crain for being selected as one of 14 American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) members to be honored with the Sustained Contribution Award for 2016.

The award is given to recognize CPAs who have demonstrated their long-term commitment to the accounting community in the following areas:

  • Measurable contribution to the AICPA and the accounting profession
  • Dedication to voluntary service
  • Participation in an AICPA volunteer committee, task force, or resource panel for 20+ years
  • Service as a chair of an AICPA group (at least once)

Dr. Michael Crain earned his DBA at Manchester Business School at University of Manchester in England and holds certifications of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) from AICPA, and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) from Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). He teaches for the School of Accounting in traditional and executive programs, is director of FAU’s center for forensic accounting, and consults on forensic accounting and valuation projects. In his over 30 years as a practicing CPA, Dr. Crain has worked in the areas of tax, auditing, business valuation and forensic accounting and provides expert testimony in courts of law.

He served as Chairman of AICPA Business Valuation committee during the development and official publication of the AICPA’s professional standard for CPAs on valuation, serves on the editorial board of AICPA’s Journal of Accountancy, is a member of the editorial advisory board of practitioner journal, Business Valuation Update, and is a frequent presenter at AICPA’s national conferences on forensic accounting and valuation services.

Dr. Crain is the author or contributing author of professional books and journal articles including his co-authorship of the AICPA’s Essentials of Forensic Accounting alongside the other co-authors from FAU’s School of Accounting Executive Program Dr. Bill Hopwood, Dr. George Young and Dr. Carl Pacini.
